Results from Maine. Portland Boxing Club Pros Score Two Knock Outs at NEF 29.
[Lewiston, Maine] Three professional boxing matches opened the mixed boxing and MMA show at New England Fights 29 at the Androscoggin Bank Coliseum in Lewiston, ME on Saturday June 17.
The first bout featured Portland Boxing Club’s super middleweight Jason “The Fighting Fireman” Quirk of Scarborough facing Borngod Washington of Queens, NY. Washington failed to make the agreed fight weight so Quirk gave him a 5-pound advantage, but this did not help Washington’s outcome. Quirk dropped Washington with a vicious uppercut at the end of the first round, sending him wobbling back to the corner. Quirk wasted no time dropping Washington in the second round with a flurry of punches before the referee stopped the fight 22 seconds into the round declaring Quirk the winner by TKO.
In the second bout, Portland Boxing Club’s super welterweight Casey, “Buzzsaw” Kramlich of Raymond faced Bryan Goldsby of Macon, GA. Kramlich controlled the ring movement and pace of the first and second round against the awkward Goldsby who lost a point for excessive holding. In the third round, Kramlich landed a hard uppercut that put Goldsby on the canvas where he was counted out by the referee earning Kramlich the win by TKO.
In the main event of the boxing portion of the show, Portland Boxing Club’s middleweight Russell “The Haitian Sensation” Lamour Jr. of Portland faced MMA veteran Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington of Brewer. Lamour used the first round to learn Boyington’s awkward style but came out determined in the second round and quickly took control. Lamour landed repeated body shots that had Boyington reeling until an accidental clash of heads sent Boyington to the canvas. Both Lamour and Boyington were cut from the head butt, but Boyington was unwilling to continue and the fight was stopped by the ringside physician. It was too early in the bout to go to the scorecards so the fight was ruled a no-contest with no winner declared.
Portland Boxing Club’s professional boxers will be featured next on July 29 at a Pro-Am show at the Skowhegan Recreation Center.
