Star Boxing Results from Mohegan Sun
[Mohegan Sun – Uncasville, Connecticut] Danny "El Gallo" Gonzalez of Woodhaven New York fought southpaw Danny O'Connor of Framingham, MA in the co-main event fighting 10 rounds for the vacant WBC Silver International Super Lightweight Title. Before starting the fight, Gonzalez only fought 15 times in the ring while O’Connor 31 times. Danny wants this fight more. O’Connor ended up with a cut above the left eye. Both fighters exchanging punches and going to the body. Working each other down. In round 3, O’Connor letting his hands go and a followed up with a left hook that dropped Gonzalez to his knees. The referee called a halt to the bout at .39 by TKO and advances to 29-3, 12 kos.
8 Rounds – Cruiserweights: Charles “The Truth” Foster of New Haven, Connecticut fought Quentin Rankin of North Carolina. This fight was the swing bout of the night. Both fighters were fighting in in the southpaw position. Foster controlling the fight. This wasn’t a busy fight. Rankin’s corner yelling to Quentin to “Punch in there”. By the 4th Foster started picking up the pace. During round 5, the referee stopped the bout from the advice from doctor. Foster gets the TKO victory and stays undefeated and increases to 14-0, 8 Kos. His opponent 12-5-2, 9 Kos.
6 Rounds FEMALE Middleweights. Fan favorite Kali "KO Mequinonoag" Reis from Providence, Rhode Island met up against Tiffany Woodard of North Carolina. Both fighters fought a tough 6 rounds with little defense. Mostly back and forth action with Reis in control. By the 4th fireworks exploded in the ring. KO continuing landing with those left hooks. Woodard would not go down but her head kept flying backwards. Woodard has one tough chin. After 6 rounds the judges scored the bout 59-55; 60-53 and 60-54 all in favor for Reis. Reis advances to 12-6-1, 3 kos. Her opponent 4-9-3.
6 Rounds – Welterweights: East Hartford, Connecticut, "Action" Anthony Laureano against Johnny "Hitman" Hernandez of New York The Hitman came out like a jack rabbit, light on his feet in the ring moving left to right while Laureano kept it in the center of the ring. Laureano keeping his guard up, doing body/head combinations while Johnny trying to open up Laureano. Laureano backing up Hernandez. The 4th the pace picked up with Laureano in your face. Hernandez still light on feet. Laureano wearing down Hernandez. After 6 rounds with no knock downs the judges scored the bout 57-57; 58-56 and 58-56 by majority decision. Laureano increased to 6-0, 3 kos. His opponent 8-3.
4 Rounds Featherweights: Carlos “Talented” Marrero of Bridgeport, Connecticut made his pro debut against a more experienced New Yorker, Sequan Felton. Marrero brought in the fans. Both fighters starting off slow. One punch back n forth. Both not really letting their hands go while keeping the fight in the center of the ring. By the 3rd round the pace picked up. Both fighters engaging. We got some action now. Both fighters equally getting their shots in. OMG both fighters while exchanging, Marrero got caught, went to the canvas and sprung up way too fast. Referee Danny Schiavone gave Marrero the count. During the 4th the fans were cheering “Let’s go Carlos”. Felton being the more experienced of the two fighters and connecting more.
