Vinny Scolpino of VMS Management, Inc. Inks Another New England Fighter, Welterweight Derrick “Bad B
Springfield, MA – Vinny Scolpino of VMS Management, Inc. is pleased to announce the signing of another New England fighter, welterweight Derrick “Bad Boy” Whitley (3-0) of Springfield, Massachusetts to an exclusive management contract.
Whitley made his professional debut on April 1, 2017, at the Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts against Anthony Everett (1-4). The fight went the distance and the judges scored the UD in favor of Whitley, 40-36, 40-36 and 39-37. A few months later, on June 10, 2017, Whitley fought veteran, Shakha Moore (12-22-3) of Connecticut at the DCU Center, Worcester, Massachusetts. Some speculated this bout to be tough for Whitley since Moore had more experience in the ring and fought tougher opponents. After 4 hard fought rounds, the judges scored the UD all in favor of Whitley, 40-36; 39-37 and 39-37. Most recently on February 10, 2018, Whitley returned to the squared circle to face Roger Blankenship (1-2), and won by UD on the judges score card, 40-35; 40-36 and 40-36.
Whitley comes from a long line of fighters in his family. His father, Derrick "Double Impact" Whitley (24-25-3) was a professional boxer along his uncle, Darren Whitley (13-24-7).
His amateur record was a total of about 26 bouts.
Whitley said, “I am very excited to take this next step in my professional career. Everything that comes with the sport of boxing. The people around you is what can keep everything grounded. With my father as my trainer, he shares my vision, so when he said this is a great move, (signing with Vinny), I had no questions. Just knew it’s time to step it up and move on to the next chapter and that begins with becoming 4-0".
Whitley’s trainer and father, Derrick "Double Impact" Whitley said, “My son is following in my footsteps, I'm very proud of what he has done thus far. Boxing is in his blood and my son is on his way. ”
Vinny Scolpino said, “I’m very happy to be working with the renown Whitley family. Boxing goes back in his family many generations. After a great win, we are looking to get DJ back in the ring to get that next W under his belt".
