Popeye’s the NEW ABF Continental Americas Cruiserweight Champ!!!


HARTFORD, Conn. 8 round Main Event - Undefeated light heavyweight Richard "Popeye The Sailor Man" Rivera of Hartford, Connecticut and also the promoter [Hartford Boxing Promotions] was fighting for the vacant ABF Cruiserweight Championship title against Jaime "Zarco" Solorio of San Quinton, Mexico. Popeye with the height advantage. Rivera dominated the bout all the 8 rounds with Solorio looking for that one punch knock out. During round 6 a point was taken away for unsportsman like conduct. During round 8, Rivera lands a flurry of shots and referee Danny Shiavonie stopped the about at 2:30 of the round. Rivera increased to 8-0, 7 Kos and Solorio 12-4-2, 9 Kos.

Lightweights – 6 Rounds: Omar "The Beast" Bordoy, Jr. of Danbury, CT stepping up and fighting his first 6 rounder against Alexander "El Bravo" Picot fighting out of Hartford by way of Puerto Rico. Bordoy dominated all the rounds except for round 2 when Picot landed the better of the shots. Bordoy mostly picking his punches with Picot coming back with small flurry of punches. At the tail end of round 6, at 2:59 Bordoy landed a straight right on Picot and dropped Picot hard to the canvas. Congrats Bordoy on your KO victory. Bordoy increased to 6-0, 2 ko and Picot 2-6-1.

Following 4 round bouts:

Junior Welterweight: “The Special One” Sharad Collier making his pro debut against Antonio Castillo, Jr. of Canton, OH had a quick win tonight at 2:20 of round 1. Collier dropped Castillo early and as the bout continued Collier dominated Castillo in the round and won by TKO. Collier Increased to 1-0, 1 Ko and Castillo 1-1.

Lightweights: Pro Debut of Anuel Rosa of New Haven, Connecticut met up against Cleveland's Roger Blankenship. It was quick 1st round at 49 seconds. During round 1, Rosa lands a right to the jaw and buckles then Rosa lands a barrage of punches and gets the KO stoppage. Rosa is now 1-0, 1 Ko and Blankenship 1-4.

Featherweights: Pro Debut Nathan Martinez of New Britain made his pro debut against Henry Garcia of New Bedford, Massachusetts. “Sucra” Ray Oliveria was the chief second in the corner. Martinez dominated the entire bout and was the aggressor of the two fighters. By round 3, Martinez circling Garcia punching at will with very little back from Garcia. A liver shot to Garcia puts Garcia down and he gets up and finishes the round. After 4 rounds the judges scored the bout all in favor of Martinez 40-35, 3x. Martinez increased to 1-0 and Garcia 0-2.
