Irvin Gonzalez steps back in the ring to face Toka Kahn on the 29th. Interview below.

Super Featherweight Irvin Gonzalez (12-1-0, 9 kos) of Worcester, Massachusetts will be meeting up against southpaw, Toka Kahn (26-2-0, 18 Kos) on Thursday night, August 29, 2019 at Foxwoods Casino in the main event promoted by DiBella Entertainment‘s Broadway Boxing series. The bout is scheduled for 10 rounds and this should be a fight that the fans from New England will want to see.

Pattee Mak: Before we get into your exciting match up against Toka, what the heck happened during your last fight at Foxwoods against Elijah Pierce (7-1) back in May. You lost by TKO, round 3?

Gonzalez: As far as my last fight goes there was a lot that came in to play both mentally and physically before that fight and I haven’t spoke on it because I’m not a man of excuses. I take nothing away from Pierce, he’s a good fighter, I stepped in the ring that night and the more prepared man won. I learned a lot from that loss and I feel I’m better because of it. I’m excited to show the world what I can overcome and the type of fighter I really am.

Pattee Mak: Looking back, what did you wish you did differently?

Gonzalez: Looking back I wish I did a few things differently but I can’t worry about the past. I am moving on to Toka and learning from my mistakes

Pattee Mak: Would you fight Pierce again?

Gonzalez: I would love to fight Pierce again. I actually wanted an immediate rematch until the Toka opportunity came about. He is a good fighter but I feel he didn’t beat the real Irvin Gonzalez. Hopefully our paths cross again.

Pattee Mak: I would definitely like to see a rematch and I’m sure your fans would also.

Pattee Mak: Now moving right along to the 29th against Toka. Would you say this would be your toughest fight to date?

Gonzalez: I would definitely say this is my toughest fight to date. Toka is at the top of his game and is highly ranked in our division but I’m ready for this task and to showcase my talent to the world.

Pattee Mak: How are you preparing for this bout?

Gonzalez: I’m training hard for this fight as I know Toka is as well with Freddie Roach. I recently brought in coaches from Puerto Rico who I worked with for nationals as well as still working with my dad who is also a great trainer and has brought me far.

Pattee Mak: Toka is nearby only a few cities away did you and him ever meet up in the amateurs? If yes what was the outcome?

Gonzalez: No, Toka and I never met in the amateurs but we’ve sparred plenty of rounds together and one time trained together.

Pattee Mak: I’m sure you both will know what to expect from each other.

Pattee Mak: Some are saying a Toka has more experience than you and the ring what are your thoughts on that?

Gonzalez: Toka has more bouts and more rounds fought so he does have more experience but I feel my skills will prove to be better in this fight. As much as rounds fought helps a boxer that’s not what wins fights. I have fought fighters with a lot more experience than me before and judging by the fight you could not tell.

Pattee Mak: What do you want to say to Toka prior to this fight?

Gonzalez: Me and Toka have always had a good relationship and worked together with sparring and just keeping in contact. I expect our relationship to remain the same after the fight. Unfortunately in this sport of boxing friends have to face off occasionally. This is something I have worked for my whole life and sacrificed a lot for I can’t let a friend get in the way of my dreams. I’m friends with a few fighters but when it comes to me getting to the top there’s nothing or nobody that I will let get in my way.
