WORCESTER, MA (January 31, 2022) – In preparation for his signature main even showdown against Philadelphia's Nahir Albright (14-1, 7 KOs) on Friday, February 18 live on ShoBox: The New Generation, Worcester lightweight Jamaine Ortiz (14-0-1, 8 KOs) will host an open workout this Friday at Camp Get Right Boxing Gym.
OPEN MEDIA WORKOUT
Friday, February 4
2:30 pm
Camp Get Right Boxing Gym
55 Millbrook St.
Worcester, MA 01606
This event is open to the public and all media. Ortiz, the undefeated, reigning WBC World Youth Lightweight Champion promoted by CES Boxing, will be available for interviews.
Friday's event is a precursor to Ortiz's potentially career-changing bout February 18 against the hard-hitting Albright. The two face one another in the 10-round main event of Showtime's boxing triple-header, which also features Joe George (11-0, 7 KOs) facing Sean Hemphill (14-0, 8 KOs) in an eight-round super middleweight bout and Philadelphia’s undefeated welterweight prospect Paul Kroll (9-0, 6 KOs) squaring off against Marquis Taylor (12-1-1, 1 KOs) in an eight-round bout.
A highly decorated amateur who competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials before making his professional debut in 2016, Ortiz last fought in April in a draw against Joseph Adorno, surviving two knockdowns to escape unbeaten. Prior to that, Ortiz stole the show on the undercard of the Mike Tyson-Roy Jones Jr. pay-per-view spectacular with a seventh-round knockout win over Sulaiman Segawa, his most impressive win to date.
The 25-year-old Ortiz recently returned to his hometown of Worcester, MA, after spending five weeks in California helping pound-for-pound great Vasiliy Lomachenko prepare for his fight against Richard Commey. Since his win over Segawa, Ortiz has gone from being a "name to watch" at 135 pounds to a now legitimate contender during what is currently considered a renaissance period in the lightweight division. The February 18 bout will have major ramifications for whoever leaves the ring victorious.
