THE JAMES FAMILY ATHLETIC ROOTS PUSH TYRONE “PRETTY BOY” JAMES TO NEW HEIGHTS
Long Island, New York (March 15, 2022) – The 41st edition of “Rockin Fights” is just days away on Friday, March 18, and the excitement is brewing for the ring return of TYRONE “PRETTY BOY” JAMES (11-0 8 KO’s) as he challenges for the ABO North American Super Welterweight Title. Opposing James will be his toughest test to date, JIMMY “QUIET STORM” WILLIAMS (18-6-2 6 KO’s) who will make the trip to Long Island with one goal in mind - return to New Haven, Connecticut with the ABO title. Williams certainly has the credentials as he defeated former world champion Yuri Foreman last June. Although Williams is the experienced veteran here, it is Tyrone James who is being groomed as the next Star Boxing contender to rise from the famed “Rockin’ Fights” series at Paramount. If you trace back the James family tree, it would be no surprise that Tyrone is a budding undefeated 154 lb. rising prospect. After four years as a standout starting running back for Yankton College, Tyrone’s father Daryl was drafted by the Oklahoma Outlaws of the USFL in the 14th round of the 1984 draft. Tyrone’s Uncle Jerry was a standout amateur boxer who won the National Golden Gloves Championship in 1988 and was a US Olympic team alternate. As a fighter, James has tried to emulate and craft his boxing style into a combination of his father’s running back toughness along with his Uncle Jerry’s boxing ability. Many would wilt under the pressure of familial athletic excellence, but for Tyrone, this wasn’t the case,” They have always been encouraging and never let me feel like I couldn’t be as great as they were” said James. “ We’ve always been tight, and their support made me believe that I wouldn’t just match them, but could be greater.” Absorbing this support, Tyrone James had a phenomenal amateur career, finishing with a record of 79-16, with his marquee win coming against Pedro Sosa who was rated #1 in the country at the time. During this span Tyrone would become a five-time Junior Olympic Champion and Nebraska Golden Gloves Champion. Now, for the first time in the pro ranks, Tyrone is fighting for a championship and will look to taste gold and go home with the ABO North American 154 lb. Championship. In the main event of Rockin’ Fights 41 Ukraine born and #6 world rated bantamweight OLEH “UKRAINIAN PITBULL” DOVHUN (13-0 5KO’s) is set to defend his NABA Super Bantamweight World Title over 10 rounds against Belgian bruiser GERAM ELOYAN (7-2 6KO’s).
